Fall into Winter

This is my second post today so make sure you read the previous one about the Boundary Waters. Winter has come to Minnesota.

The last couple days the high has been around 38. Before the leaves all disappeared and the cold hit I took one last Fall photo expedition with Jesse and captured somethings I don't think I've shot before, Fall editables. Mostly Pumpkins and Turkeys. I've uploaded a couple along with two shots of Minneapolis at sunset. I guess there is some advantage to the shorter days and being in school until its almost dark. ;)

Also if any of you are still interested in finding out what exactly I've been working on for the last couple months, there's a new Behind the Scenes video up on the movie site that explains what the whole projects about better than I have been able to do.

Yes it's a very nerdy project... Midnight

Boundary Waters Adventure

The blog has been inactive for far too long... Steve is long dead and buried... so today I'm giving you two updates!

Since my last post I've started my final quarter here in Minnesota. During my one week break in-between quarters I decided I needed a break from the work as well as school. So I got together some of the good ol' boys (Jesse, Elroy and Brendan) and we set out to have an adventure in one of Minnesota's most famous natural features, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

It wasn't a relaxing weekend in the way I thought it would be, with three days of traveling from Sawbill Lake up into Cherokee and then looping back down to where we started. Our second day we crossed eight or nine portages the old fashioned way canoes, two guys carrying canoes on their shoulders while the other two double packed it. As a testament to how much this can wear you out we almost slept twelve hours after our first day of traveling. However by the time we reached our last lake we were all sore, stinky and happy with our adventure. The best part was somewhere between day one and day three I forget about work, deadlines, graduation and I no longer visualized 3D models and FX shots in my sleep.

One of the main reasons I wanted to head out to the Boundary waters was for the chance to capture some great fall photos. On our first and second day's we only got rain, but towards evening on the second day the sun broke through just enough to splash the clouds with red as it set. The next morning the lakes were like glass, covered in fog and the skies were clear with perfect photography conditions.

The pictures are all pretty self-explanitory... we had an awesome time.
